The first concert will initially stream on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020 at 7 PM EDT and the second concert will initially stream on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7 PM EDT. When we realized we would not be able to hold the in-person festival due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we looked at having a virtual festival. Paul Tierney of the park encouraged us to do this with great enthusiasm. Andrew Bevan kindly volunteered to be our tech wizard and he truly has shone at this. We knew we had some good videos from the late 1980’s taken by Jim Kuhn and the virtual festival would provide an opportunity to share some of those.

Inspired by my experience making a video for the Cowan Creek Music School, I began contacting some of the folks who perform and jam at the festival and asked them to make a video of one or two pieces that we could use for an online concert. Twenty-one people provided videos that we are sharing! It was gratifying to have those folks take time to make a video and then figure out to upload it. We miss having the festival and getting to play music and visit together at the beautiful park so much. But some of the sting is removed when watching our friends play their hearts out in these videos and you all have my deep thanks for your music and stories shared in these two concerts.

A big thanks goes out to Tom Duffee, for doing the MC work. He typically emcees part of the Saturday night concert, and his willingness to bring his thoughtful introductions to the online concert helps pull it altogether.

Hope you enjoy the online version of the Fraley Festival of Traditional Music and I look forward to seeing everyone in person in 2021. — Barb Kuhns, Festival Director
